Coventry is inviting cyclists to ride on traffic free streets on Sunday 17 September! Bring your friends, bring your family, and join us on a ride to remember.

HSBC City Ride 2017

HSBC UK City Ride Coventry is more than just a great bike ride on a traffic free circuit. There’s plenty to do for all the family (even those not riding!).

Here’s a sample of what’s on offer:

At the main event hubs in Broadgate and Millennium Place

  • Pick up your free City Ride bib and even get it personalised
  • Race on the pop-up Street Velodrome
  • Get some bike advice from our technicians at the Cycle Inn
  • Try some virtual reality track cycling
  • Kids’ Zone: decorate your bike and learn new skills from British Cycling’s Go-Ride course 
  • Grab a drink and a bite to eat at the Breakaway Cafe

Along the route

  • Enjoy entertainment and music around the route – to keep you going (and smiling)
  • Be loud and proud in the ‘Toot your Horn’ zone 
  • Take on the Sir Chris Hoy Challenge and test your sprint skills against the best
  • Look out for the HSBC UK pedal bus!

At special points around the route

  • Try a host of different types of bikes at the Trial Trail
  • Take things easy with a rickshaw ride – or try a bit harder on a tandem!
  • Bikes are available to hire for children and adults on the day

Need to hire a bike on the day?

Bikes for children and adults can be hired on the day at the Hub in Broadgate.  Prices start from £5 for children’s and £6 for adults’ bikes for an hour.

Family Cargo Bikes that seat 1 adult and can carry 2 children under 7 in the front can be hired from £12.50/hour from the Hub.  Bike hire is open from 10am - 3pm and operates on a first come, first served basis. To hire a bike you will need to bring a credit card, driving licence or passport AND proof of current address.

Adapted bikes for people with disabilities are available to hire from Wheels for All on Little Park Street (opposite the Council House).

Where to join the route

Cyclists can join the traffic free route 11am – 3pm from the Hub (Broadgate), Millennium Place (Coventry Transport Museum), Jordan Well (Coventry University), Bishop Street (Canal Basin Bridge) & Little Park St (Police Station) only.

Where to collect a bib

HSBC UK City Ride bibs can be collected from 10am in the Hub (Broadgate) and Millennium Place (Coventry Transport Museum)

Need a car park?

Event parking will be signed.

  • Arriving from north & west: Lower Ford Street and Cox Street, CV1 5PS
  • Arriving from east: Gosford Street, CV1 5ED
  • Arriving from south: Gulson Road, CV1 2HR


There are regular train services to Coventry station, which is a 10 minute ride from the start.  London Midland trains carry at least 2 bikes.  Cross Country Trains carry up to 3 bikes, but booking is advised. Virgin Trains carry up to 4 bikes, but booking is essential.


Local buses do not carry bikes, but you can catch a bus to Pool Meadow bus station or Trinity Street and hire a bike on the day at Broadgate. Plan your journey online.

Road closures

The Ring Road will be open clockwise and shopping centre car parks remain open.

Road closures are in place on the route 6am - 6pm.  Entry and exit slip roads to the anti-clockwise ring road carriageway will be closed, except slip roads from Radford Rd to Holyhead Rd (Jct. 9-8), Holyhead Rd to Croft Road (Jct. 8-7) and Croft Road to Warwick Road (Jct. 7-6). The inside lane of Foleshill Road roundabout (Jct. 1) will remain open. The station access from Junction 6 will also be open.
