This information is based on the final data for Summer 2008 assessments. At Key Stage 2, Coventry's results are generally in line with the national picture of results at the expected and higher levels. For the expected level of achievement, Level 4, Coventry pupils improved by 3% points in mathematics and maintained their performance in English and science.
Key Stage 2: Level 4+ (expected level of achievement)
- In maths, 77% of Coventry children have achieved the expected level which is a 3% point increase on 2007. Nationally results increased by 1% point to 78% and gap with the national has narrowed considerably to just 1% point.
- In English, 78% of Coventry children have achieved the expected level which is the same as 2007. Nationally results increased by 1% point to 81% and therefore the gap has increased to 3% points.
- In both English and maths 69% achieved the expected level which is a 1% point increase on 2007. Nationally increased by 1% point to 72% and therefore the gap remains the same at 3% points.
- In science high standards have been maintained from last year with 86% of children achieving the expected level. Nationally results also remained the same at 88% and therefore a 2% gap remains with national.
Key Stage 2: Level 5+ (higher level of achievement)
At the higher level 5, Coventry's results mirror the national trend where there has been lower outcomes in all subjects.
- In English, 25% achieved the higher level, a reduction of 4% points from 2007 which reflects the national decline of 4% points to 29%.
- In maths, 26% achieved the higher level - a reduction of 1% point from 27% in 2007 which reflects the national decline of 1% point to 31%.
- In science, 39% achieved the higher level - a 2% point decrease from 41% last year which is better than the national decline of 3% points to 43%.
Progress between Key Stage 1 (7 year olds) and Key Stage 2 (11 year olds)
In 2008 Coventry matched the national rate of progress with an improved rate of 99.9 compared to 99.8 in 2007.
- In English the proportion of children making two levels' progress remained the same at 82%. Nationally results are not yet available for 2008 with a figure of 83% for 2007.
- In maths the proportion of children making two levels' progress increased by 5% points from 74% in 2007 to 79% in 2009. Nationally results are not yet available for 2008 with a figure of 76% for 2007.
