Operation 'Fill up'
Release date: Jan 28, 2010
Filling in potholes.
A Council task force team has been set up to ensure that the problem with potholes is being dealt with in a quick and efficient manner. The problem is causing concern to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians alike.
The problem is being tackled by using both conventional and modern 21st century methods. The infrared process recycles the existing road surface macadam in-situ and produces a heat-sealed, seamless and permanent repair, while the more conventional method fills and compacts the hole with a bituminous macadam surface course.
Last week over 1,200 potholes were filled in by nine teams using both methods, and Coventry Direct received 513 calls from the public reporting potholes. There is also a programme of works for the crews to repair roads in the city.
Councillor Hazel Noonan, cabinet member for City Services, said: "The recent spell of wintry weather has caused problems with potholes all over the country. Residents can report a pothole in two ways - by ringing Coventry Direct on 0500 834 333 or filling out a form on the website. Priority will be given to holes deeper than 40mm or one and a half inches. An easy way to remember is a pound coin and a 1p coin side by side! We will endeavour to fix it as soon as possible."
