Entry to Employment Team

As the largest employer in the city, Coventry City Council has embarked upon a number of new initiatives to ensure that disadvantaged groups are provided with employment opportunities to improve their skills and knowledge.

The newly created Entry to Employment team which consists of three Employment Support Advisors, a Training and Development Advisor and the Employment and Inclusion Manager will be able to offer a range of work experience or traineeships.We will be actively working with partner organisations and managers within Coventry City Council to improve the diversity of the Council.

If you are aged 16-24, we offer an opportunity to earn while you learn with Coventry City Council and other local organisations on an Apprenticeship training scheme. There will be a range of different apprenticeship opportunities available during the course the year.


Apprenticeships at the City Council

Apprenticeships include:

  • Business Administration
  • Finance
  • Catering
  • Plumbing
  • Electrical installation
  • IT
  • Highway Maintenance
  • Sports Development
  • Building Surveying
  • Building Maintenance

Training

Your training will be delivered by skilled trainers and people who will assist in your achievement of the 2-3 year Apprenticeship programme.

Qualifications

Your work based learning will enable you to work towards a nationally recognised vocational qualification (NVQs). Some NVQs this will lead to craft apprenticeships which will lead to specific semi- professional qualifications. This will be achieved through one of our excellent local training providers.

Experience

Throughout your apprenticeship you will gain a vast amount of experience which will enable you to apply for jobs within the City Council or other organisations.

Pay

You will be entitled to a weekly training allowance, which is subject to your age. If you would like to be part of our established Apprenticeship training programme and would like to find out more of the opportunities on offer, then please contact us.

Disability Traineeship Scheme

If you have a disability and are finding it difficult to gain work experience or work based training, we are able to offer short or long-term placements in the Council. This can range from a couple of hours per week to a full time paid traineeship for 9 months.

Looked After Children

Children aged 16-24 who are in foster care, residential homes or living independently will be able to have the same life choices as other children. The team will be able to provide work experience or an Apprenticeship.
