Young Driver of the Year 2008 - winner announced
Following this year's hugely successful Young Driver competition, which was hosted by MIRA for the first time, Coventry City Council, together with Warwickshire County Council, Institute of Advanced Motorists, and Peugeot have recently held a presentation evening at the Headquarters of Peugeot UK and announced the overall competition winner.
Karl Fowler, aged 21 and a student at Aston University was delighted to be named as the overall competition winner and picked up the keys to a brand new Peugeot 107! Karl beat hundreds of applicants to be selected for a practical driving day in Sept – he was then chosen as one of 12 finalists for a further driving day in Oct. The driving ability of the 12 finalists was really tested with a grueling 2 hour observed drive, off road driving, driving towing a vehicle, driving a larger van and also handling their vehicle on a wet handling circuit.
Alongside the main competition, MIRA also offered 2 prizes of a day's driving training at their track near Nuneaton. The two winners of these were Matt Mayfield and Luke Fox.
