The Best Bar None Awards 2008 ceremony took place on Monday 29th September 2008 in St Mary's Guildhall, Coventry.

The Best Bar None scheme identifies venues who have demonstrated to the local authority, Police, and Fire Service that they have established responsible and innovative policies focused on customer care and safety. Venues who have achieved Best Bar None accreditation are committed to working together with the Police, council and other regulatory bodies to provide fun, safe and enjoyable venues."

Geoff Makin, Environmental Health Manager said: "Although no one can guarantee that you won’t experience problems on a night out, venues that have been awarded Best Bar None accreditation have demonstrated additional commitment to making sure that you have the best night out possible in comfortable and safer surroundings."

Michelle Ledbrook, Licensing Officer, said: "When you plan your night out, look for those venues with the Best Bar None accreditation. If the pub, bar or night club you visit has a Best Bar None certificate displayed, then you know that it is a venue who is serious about your safety and enjoyment."

The Best Bar None Awards celebrates the premises in Coventry who have gained Accreditation for 2008.   It recognises the premises who have gained both basic accreditation and gold standard accreditation.

It also awards the premises who have gained the title of Best in Category.

The categories are identified below and the winners of each category were announced as:

  • Best Local Community Pub – The winner was the Newlands
  • Best Bar – The winner was Millsy's Café Bar
  • Best Nightclub – The winner was Careys Nightclub
  • Best Pub – The winner was the Phoenix

The winners of each category received 4 tickets each to the Godiva Awards which was held on Thursday 16th October 2008, where the overall Best Bar None winner was announced.

This years winer was the Newlands Pub and they were delighted with the result.   The Newlands were awarded the title of Best Bar None because of the extremely high standards of customer safety that they adhere to and their specific attention to detail to ensure that their staff and customers can relax and enjoy themselves in a safe environment.
