Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Coventry
At the Annual Meeting of the City Council on Thursday, 15th May 2008, Councillor Andy Matchet and Mrs Caron Matchet were inaugurated as the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Coventry for 2008 / 2009.
Lord Mayor's biography
Andy Matchet came to Coventry in 1970 to study Economics and Politics at Coventry's 'new' University of Warwick and has, almost continuously, worked and lived here ever since.
He attended Cotham Grammar School in Bristol ('A' Levels in Maths, Physics and Chemistry).
Born in Cardiff in 1952 and rapidly moved to Gloucester, followed by periodic moves to Worcester, Evesham and finally Bristol in 1961.
Andy has worked in Further Education as an Assistant Principal, ran his own IT training and consultancy business, worked for a rural regeneration charity and now works part-time as an Open University Tutor and Improvement and Development Agency member peer.
Andy and his wife Caron have two children, Tom aged 20 and Lucy aged 19, who both attended Earlsdon Primary and Finham Park Schools.
Elected to Coventry City Council in 1999 (representing Earlsdon Ward), he has served as:
- Governor of Earlsdon Primary School
- Chair of Health Scrutiny
- Representative on West Midlands Fire Authority
- Cabinet Member for Health and Housing
- Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Health and Equalities
- Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Community Safety
- Deputy Lord Mayor
Lord Mayor's charities for 2008:
- The Heart of England Community Foundation in helping Coventry based charities
- Coventry Peace House
- Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC)
Caron will play an active part in highlighting and supporting the hard work that goes on every day by volunteers and community groups across our city.
