Fitness Courses

The Adult Education Service has a range of courses that makes keeping fit and healthy easy and enjoyable. Whether you are just starting to include exercise in your life, wishing to improve your fitness, or wanting to try something new, we offer sports and fitness courses at all levels of physical demand to meet all capabilities.

If you think exercise is not for you, that it will be too hard or that you won't be able to keep up, think again. We offer courses such as Gentle Keep Fit which includes chair based exercises, as well as Keep Fit for specific age groups - courses that will improve physical and mental well-being for everyone.

Sometimes, committing to a regular exercise programme can be difficult. Enrolling on a course that lasts several weeks will provide you with a framework and the support needed to achieve what you want. Courses such as one of the levels of Yoga or Pilates will improve or maintain fitness levels.

If you already have a good level of fitness and want regular practice and/or challenging activities, then Aerobics or Pilates at improver level are for you - these courses are offered at various venues across the city.

We also offer a range of water based courses suitable for all ability levels. Exercising in water can be relaxing and enjoyable.  Aquafit is suitable for most people - even those who are expectant mothers and those who find it difficult to exercise on dry land - you don't have to be a great swimmer. If you're afraid of the water, why not try one of our Swimming courses? Our tutors have passed on their skills to learners of all ages. The classes aim to encourage adults to be confident in water. You will be taught a variety of strokes and everyone learns at their own pace. So go on - take the plunge!
