ICT, Book-Keeping and Business Administration Courses

The Adult Education Service offers a range of computer courses.


Courses available

Computer workshops - leisure are workshops for those with no previous computer knowledge or for those not wishing, or not ready, to take a qualification.  There are a range of topics including:

  • the basics for complete beginners
  • spreadsheets for household accounts
  • desktop publishing projects - cards, calendars, invitations, etc
  • web page design
  • using the scanner
  • downloading pictures from digital cameras and simple photo editing
  • surfing the internet, booking holidays, flights and shopping on line, using browsers
  • on-line communication, emailing with attachments, setting up address books, etc
  • creating a database

CAD/CAM is a leisure course in the use of computers in design and manufacturing.

Digital imagery workshops include the development of skills in taking, uploading and manipulating digital images using your digital or video camera.

Workshops leading to qualifications

You can gain nationally recognised qualifications in the following computer workshops:

For the less experienced:

  • Level 1 - OCR New CLAIT/entry level workshops

For the more experienced:

  • Level 2 - OCR CLAIT Plus
  • CISCO IT Essentials 1: PC hardware and software - this course will prepare you for work as a computer technician in any industry or in an office environment.

The following courses are one year long starting in September.  Introductory courses (10weeks x 2 hours) for ITQ, Business and Administration and Customer Service will take place in the summer term.  These courses build up skills, knowledge and understanding and give an insight into requirements for the full NVQ course.

  • Text and word processing workshops
  • Bookkeeping OCR - Bookkeeping covers the principles of double entry bookkeeping using the popular Sage Line 50.
  • ITQ (NVQ in using IT) - a flexible qualification, which enables you to choose units that reflect what you do as part of your job, study, voluntary work or hobby.
  • Business and Administration NVQ Level 2 or 3 - is a part-time flexible, work-based qualification. It is aimed at people who wish to gain recognition for their skills and knowledge, update their skills or start a new career in administration.
  • Customer Service NVQ Level 2 - is a part-time flexible, work-based qualification.  it is aimed at people who wish to gain recognition for their skills and knowledge, update their skills or start a new career in Customer Service roles, this course is new for September 2008.
