Teacher training and learning support

We offer qualifications for people wanting to work as teaching assistants in schools or to support adult learners in the classroom.

Teaching Assistant qualifications

National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 2 is for people who are new to the role of teaching assistant, work in a limited capacity or would like to work in schools.  NVQ at level 3 is for experienced teaching assistants whose job role calls for competence relating to a range of responsibilities.

NVQs are competence based qualifications, for which participants are required to produce a portfolio of evidence whilst working in a primary, secondary or special school.

Certificate in Adult Learner Support

The City & Guilds 9297 is a course for those interested in becoming volunteers in English or maths classes.  If you would enjoy becoming a learning partner, supporting one or two learners under the guidance of a tutor, then this is the course for you.  Some of our volunteers decide to train further and go on to become learning support assistants or tutors, whilst others prefer to offer their time as volunteers, performing a valuable role within adult learning.  The course is free for all those who volunteer.

Acceptance on to all the above courses is subject to initial assessment and interview.
