Special needs and inclusion
Coventry City Council is firmly committed to the principle of inclusion and to ensuring that all the children and young people in Coventry have a real chance of success in their lives.
For this reason, as a local education authority, we seek to provide a range of educational opportunities so that, wherever possible, they will be educated alongside their peers in their local community. Coventry Local Authority has a Special Educational Needs policy (see downloadable document below).
For most children with special educational needs, this provision will be made in their local neighbourhood school. Some mainstream schools have additional resources for children with hearing or visual difficulties or with speech and language difficulties and there are two enhanced resource nurseries for very young children with severe special educational needs within two of our primary schools.
For children and young people whose needs are greater, Coventry has nine special schools that provide high quality support for a range of different needs.
Our wide range of SEN and Inclusion Support Services offer schools, parents and pupils a number of different services which share the common aim of promoting greater inclusion and supporting the educational attainment and achievement of these children and young people.
And our Parent Partnership service provides information and support to parents whose children have special educational needs.
