LACES (looked after children education service)

Coventry City Council is committed to improving the lives of children and young people in public care (looked after children). LACES is a service that was set up to help improve their educational chances.


Our Aims

Our aims are to promote:

  • the educational, personal social and emotional development of looked after children
  • the social and educational inclusion of looked after children.

We aim to do 'all that a good parent would' to raise achievement and promote inclusion of all looked-after children by encouraging and supporting their educational, social and emotional development.

Who are we?

Our team is made up of:

  • Head of Service
  • Two full time teachers
  • Two part time Educational Psychologists
  • One full time Administration Officer
  • One full time Clerical Officer - home tuition programme 
  • One part time Clerical Officer - literacy programmes 
  • One full time Learning Mentor - individual support including reducing exclusions

In addition, we have close links with Connexions and the CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) Looked After Team.

The Education Service operates eleven other SEN and Inclusion Support Services. These services all work with schools and parents/carers to promote the educational, personal, social and emotional development of children and young people.
