Learning and Behaviour Support Service (Secondary)
The Learning and Behaviour Support Service (Secondary) is a team of specialist teachers who provide learning and behaviour support to secondary schools for pupils who are experiencing difficulties.
We have knowledge and experience of:
- Things that may affect learning and behaviour
- The special support, usually involving school, parents/carers and ourselves, that is likely to improve learning and behaviour.
We all have significant training and experience in this specialist field.
What do we do?
We work with young people, teachers, parents/carers and the Local Authority to promote learning and behaviour. We do this in three key areas:
1) Provision within the secondary schools:
- Providing advice to schools, parents and carers on strategies for supporting pupils with their learning and behaviour.
- Assessing learning and/or behaviour difficulties.
- Providing specialist teaching for individual and groups of pupils.
- Updating and advising schools on best practice in relation to a wide range of learning and behaviour difficulties.
- Supporting pupils at risk of exclusion through specialist support within school.
2) Off-site provision at pupil referral units:
- Working with pupils at risk of exclusion on fixed-term courses with a view to supporting them within their mainstream school.
- Working with excluded pupils and those at risk of exclusion with a view to a managed move into a new mainstream school.
- Supporting pupils, parents/carers whilst young person is undergoing assessment of learning and behaviour.
3) Key Stage 4 Provision:
- Supporting excluded pupils and those at risk of exclusion in KS4 by arranging alternative programs of study / work experience, at a variety of venues.
- In a small number of cases, provision of Home Tuition.
