Splash 'n' Play Park

During the school holidays, younger visitors are able to enjoy an added attraction at War Memorial Park with the water feature, known as the Splash 'n' Play Park.

The facility is dominated by a central multi-jet feature consisting of 36 water jets with water rising to 1.5 to 2m in height. This feature can be used by children of all ages.  Surrounding the central feature are a further four features. The 'Popits' and 'Water Ring' are suitable for the under 8's while the 'Mushroom' and 'Drencher', squirting water in a downward direction from a height of 2.5m are suitable for the 8 to 12 year old's.


Using the Splash 'n' Play Park safely

To enjoy a 'spray' in the park you must be aged between 6 months and 12 years. Each day may be broken down into age defined sessions, for greater safety of users, depending on user numbersA safe and healthy environment is key to ensuring visitors enjoy a refreshing treat.  You can help us keep the Splash 'n' Play Park clean and safe by following the advice and safety tips below.

Handy advice and safety tips

To ensure you can use the Splash 'n' Play Park when you visit the War Memorial Park, please come prepared and observe the following guidance:

  • Leave all valuables at home as you will be unable to take items such as mobile phones/hand bags into the Splash 'n' Play area.
  • All pushchairs must be left outside the Splash 'n' Play area.
  • Ensure babies (over 6 months old) and toddlers not yet potty trained, wear a swim nappy, these will be provided free of charge, at the Tennis Pavilion. Under 8's to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Always use the foot wash before entering the Splash 'n' Play area.
  • No footwear will be permitted within the Splash 'n' Play area.
  • Only swimwear, shorts and t-shirts can be worn by users.
  • A maximum of 150 users (including parents/carers) are allowed into the Splash 'n' Play area during each session (numbers strictly controlled by the use of wristbands) and will be on a first come first served basis.
  • Always listen to the Waterpark staff. The rules are there to make your time more enjoyable.
  • Don't drink from the fountain.

Enjoying the Splash 'n' Play Park

To help everyone get the best from the Splash 'n' Play Park, the health and safety specialists have given their expert advice and we have introduced the following operating rules to ensure you get the best from the facility.

Maintenance breaks

There will be fifteen minute breaks between each Splash 'n' Play session to enable staff to carry out any necessary cleaning and inspection work.

Older children

The final slot of the day throughout the operating period will be open to all ages up to 16.

Monitoring and inspection

We will be monitoring how we operate the Splash 'n' Play Park on an ongoing basis and may have to change the rules for using the area. We will be taking a flexible approach to the sessions to ensure users gain maximum benefit from the facility, however, health and safety issues will dictate how each session is delivered.

The water feature will operate, weather permitting, on the following dates:

Daily Openings

Saturday, 24 May to Sunday, 1 June

Saturday, 19 July to Sunday, 31 August

Weekend Openings

Saturday, 7 June to Sunday, 13 July

Saturday, 6 September to Sunday, 28 September

(please note each session lasts for a maximum period of 45 minutes)

Please note: it may be necessary to carry out additional maintenance work on the water feature, which, on occasion, could cause minor disruption to the above sessions.
