War Memorial Park
War Memorial Park is Coventry's premier park and attracts around 400,000 visitors from all over the city and further beyond every year. Many come to enjoy a casual visit, while others come to take part in some of the many special events that take place throughout the year.
Approximately 48.5 hectares in size, the park consists of two distinct areas, the formal garden with the War Memorial and the sports facilities areas with playing fields, golf course, Splash 'n' Play Park (closed for the winter) and play areas. There is also a 1.6 mile circular footpath around the park.

War Memorial Park awarded Beacon status
The Tennis Foundation, supported by the LTA, has announced that War Memorial Park, one of Coventry’s leading tennis park sites, has been awarded ‘Beacon’ status in recognition of their high quality, affordable community tennis programmes.
The announcement was made as the park was presented with their prestigious beacon plaque by the Tennis Foundation.
War Memorial Park was selected by the Tennis Foundation for the accolade along with 39 other Beacon sites across the country. It is one of the first community sites to achieve the status, which recognises the best community-focused facilities, as part of AEGON Parks Tennis. The park is also set to receive a further boost with a £213,394 investment in the site planned by the LTA, with support from Sport England. Subject to planning permission, this will support an education centre, new changing rooms and refurbish the existing Clubhouse. In addition, the courts will be reconstructed and floodlights will be installed onto four courts.
The Formal Garden
The formal area is dominated by stately Copper Beach trees, which were planted in memory of the various military servicemen who died during the war. Each tree has it's own individual dedicated plaque. The calm shade from these trees prevents much of the grass from growing around their bases and in the autumn the ground is full of stunning copper/red leaves. In past times, great emphasis was put on the high quality horticultural features that were introduced to the park. Features like the large-scale ornamental flower borders, rockeries and water gardens which made the park extremely popular to the people of Coventry who visited in great numbers.
Sports facilities
The sports facilities in the park include a Pitch and Putt golf course, 10 hard tennis courts, 12 football pitches, flat green bowls and a new putting green. Charges are made for the use of these facilities, which helps with the cost of maintaining the park. Changing is available in the main Pavilion, which also provides a small shop, toilets, showers and cafe. An orienteering course is available and route marked healthy walks trails will soon be available.
