Canley Regeneration

Canley Regeneration area

Coventry City Council is investing a substantial amount of money to help make Canley, located in the west of Coventry, an even better place to live and work. This is a great opportunity for the area and after listening to what people have said we have now finalised plans to improve the area.

In 2006 people were asked what they thought of three opportunities for the Canley area. Events and exhibitions took place so that people could drop in and have a look at the proposals, all pupils at at the local primary school had their say and young people at the secondary school were also involved in telling us what they thought. Plans were taken out to residential homes in the Canley area and some people even gave their views over a game of bingo! All the feedback received helped the Council draw up the final plan for the area. You can find out more about what people said at the consultations by viewing the consultation report

Canley Regeneration  - The Plan

The Canley Regeneration Plan is well underway.  Charter Primary School has already been provided and the Midland Sports Centre is currently being relocated into a new purpose built state of the art facility. This centre has now been named, you can find out more about the new name here. The plan also includes improvements to the environment and community facilities for existing canley residents, providing new public facilities and better refurbished local shops, and to build new homes for sale and rent, mainly in the Prior Deram area of Canley.

In a unique move the Council has pledged that all of the money it raises from land sales for the new housing will be reinvested  back into the community on benefits for local people. A residents parking scheme will be introduced on some of the existing estates, a new community hub facility will be developed which will contain a new library, community centre and meeting rooms alongside council services. Other improvements include new footpaths and cycle ways, anti-crime measures including CCTV and better street lighting, enhanced local services including employment training, leisure, health and educational programmes and support for local businesses. To find out more read the latest Regenerating Canley newsletter.

We have recently appointed Alliance Planning Consultants who will produce the outline planning application for Canley regeneration. You can find out more here.

Small scale environmental work is already underway and this includes a street furniture project, the removal of the mound at Yarmouth Green and entrance improvements to Park Wood. Find out more about these small-scale projects.  The big improvement work will start in 2009 when the first building work gets underway. No demolition will take place before 2010 and none of the homes affected will be demolished before there are replacement homes built. The new development and the improvements will happen over a ten year period - the same period it is planned that new homes are built.

Please fill in the Canley Transport Survey. Please ensure that the survey is completed and returned by Friday 18 July 2008.
