The masterplan - we want to know what you think

The plans have been drawn up by architects The Jerde Partnership following widespread consultation earlier this year by Coventry City Council which saw nearly two thousand people tell the architects what they wanted to see in their new city centre. Their views formed the brief for the design of the masterplan which has now been published ahead of a further consultation period.

During the consultation Coventry people said that shopping in Coventry suffered from a poor choice of mainly cheap shops, and that the centre was not attractive or well connected. They also wanted to see more independent shops.  People wanted to get rid of the canopy outside Cathedral Lanes shopping centre, Cathedral Lanes itself and the escalators in the Upper Precinct.  People also wanted to see more green space, trees and water in their new city centre.

The masterplan will help us to create a distinctive, quirky and very special new city centre and it will make the centre of Coventry unique again. Throughout our history we’ve reinvented ourselves to meet new challenges - a new city centre will see us transforming ourselves once again to be one of the country’s most important and successful cities. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and we must make it happen.

Now we want to know what you think.....

The consultation period has now closed.

The plans are available for viewing in person and via the web.
