Local Development Framework

Planning legislation has been updated under the 2004 Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act. This Act requires that Local Planning Authorities prepare a Local Development Framework (or LDF for short). Coventry's LDF is about managing change to secure the best achievable quality of life for all members of the community and working together to achieve agreed objectives in the development and use of land.


Components of the Local Development Framework

The existing planning policy framework is provided by the adopted Coventry Development Plan (CDP). The Council is progressing work on the LDF which will replace the CDP during 2009/2010.

Local Development Scheme.

The Council's timetable for the preparation of local development documents.

Statement of Community Involvement.

The Council's policy for engaging, consulting and involving the community on planning applications and the preparation of local development documents.

Sustainability Appraisal.

Planning policy documents are appraised to ensure that they contribute to the aims of Sustainable Development.

Local Development Documents

These form a 'portfolio' of policy documents which will deliver the spatial planning strategy for the city.

Proposals Map

Shows relevant adopted policies by:

  • identifying areas of protection, such as Green Belt and Conservation areas; and
  • illustrating locations and identifying sites for particular land use.

Annual Monitoring Report.

Provides information on the achievement of policies.

Evidence Base.

A range of technical studies to support and develop the Local Development Framework.
