Update 8 December 2009

The hearing sessions for the examination of the Core Strategy have now closed. The examination remains open whilst the Inspector is writing his report but no further written material should be sent to the Inspector unless he has specifically requested it. The Inspector has indicated that his report will be available in April and the Programme Officer will still be available until that time.

At the request of the Inspector, the Council have produced weekly lists of proposed changes discussed during the hearing sessions and a tracked changed document including such proposed changes.

The Council is preparing a City Centre Area Action Plan (AAP) to provide a statutory basis for the consideration of development proposals that will deliver the transformational change of the City Centre outlined in the Core Strategy.

The APP document sets out our emerging strategy and provides an opportunity for comment before 14 January 2010.

Public consultation took place on the following two items:

Proposed changes

The tracked changes document (CS0.3), the revised proposals map (CS0.1A) and the schedule of changes (CS0.2 and 2a) provided on submission have been superseded. The Council has prepared two revised schedules: one with editorial items such as typos and updates (CS0.2B) and the other with focussed changes (CS0.2C). These can be accessed via the links below, along with submitted Core Strategy (CS0.0) and Proposals Map (CS0.1) which form the starting point for the examination. Please note that other proposed changes may arise from further work and at the hearings.

Some of the representations received have suggested additional pieces of land for allocation. In order for the inspector to be able to consider these as part of her examination they need to have been the subject of public consultation and sustainability appraisal. The list of sites can be accessed using the link below.

Hearings start date

    The hearing sessions of the Examination will commence at 10am on Tuesday 10 November 2009 in Diamond Rooms 1 and 2 of the Council House,

Pre Hearing Meeting

A Pre Hearing Meeting took place on Tuesday 22 September 2009 at the Council House, Coventry. The purpose of the PHM is to explain and discuss procedural and administrative matters relating to the management of the Examination.

Inspector

The Secretary of State has appointed Nigel Payne BSc(Hons) DipTP MRTPI MIMgt of the Planning Inspectorate to conduct an examination to determine whether the Core Strategy is sound and legally compliant. Written exchanges between the Inspector and the Council or representors can be viewed and downloaded here;

Programme Officer

Anne Lynch has been appointed as the independent Programme Officer under the direction of the Inspector. Anne will deal with all related procedural, administrative and programming matters and any communications for the Inspector should be made through her. Exploratory Meeting

The Inspector held an Exploratory Meeting on the 12 August 2009. Background papers and notes can be accessed here.

Core Document List

The Council has submitted a comprehensive set of supporting documents relating to the Core Strategy including the evidence used in its preparation.
