Planet Pledge

"Planet Pledging" maybe not a new idea, but it's not a bad one! The whole purpose is to get us all to realise that what we do in all walks of life has an effect on the planet, our environment and therefore our friends, communities, and ultimately ourselves. "What goes around comes around" may be a simple way to put it.

You're not being asked to do anything drastic, just tweak the corners of your lifestyle and swap a few old bad habits for new good ones.

It's voluntary, free and lots of fun so why not give it a go?

What to do

Individuals, families or groups can undertake these actions. They are divided into categories although if, for instance, you're not a "gardener", don't let that stop you from becoming one!

There are 3 levels of pledge:

  • One star is fairly easy to achieve
  • Two star may take a little more effort
  • Three star is a more long-term commitment

Pick actions that you're not already doing. Set yourself a time target- for instance this might be to complete four one stars and two two stars and start on a three star by the end of four weeks. Alternatively you might want to take much longer (some of the three stars are especially long-term).

Closing date for entries is 31 December 2008. Winners will be notified by 31 January 2009. Prizes are not transferable and there are no cash alternatives. We reserve the right to verify pledge achievement before awarding prizes.
