Coventry Healthy Walks

What is Coventry Healthy Walks?

Coventry Healthy Walks sets up and helps to lead a network of walks in the community. The project aims to encourage people to join weekly led walks and also take up more independent walking as part of their daily lifestyle. We have a vast range of walks that run across the whole city and these are accessible to everyone. Visit the weekly walks page to view our current walks.  We believe our walks cater for everybody’s needs and that everybody in the city has a chance to enjoy them.

Is it safe?

All walks have been risk assessed and accredited by ‘Walking for health’, Natural England.  All walks are led by qualified walk leaders who have attended ‘Walking for health’ training run by the Health and Physical Activity Team. We are part of Natural England’s national Walking for Health programme which is currently being expanded with the support of the Department of Health to increase the numbers of walkers nationwide four-fold. The accredited programme is recognised by the British Heart Foundation.

All our routes are safe, but it's important that our walkers are safe too. Please ensure that you wear comfortable shoes and clothing and bring a bottle of water to keep you hydrated.

How much does it cost?

All walks are free of charge as the initiative is funded by Coventry PCT.

How do I join?

Just come along to the walk or or visit your local GP to be referred. If possible, please print off and fill in the Outdoor Health Questionnaire and bring it with you to the walk. This is a requirement for insurance purposes. If you are unable to, don't worry, our walk leaders will have hard copies for you to fill out.

The Bakewell Health Experience

In March the North East Health Action Group organised a Healthy Walk to Bakewell in the Peak District. The aim was to promote the health benefits of walking.

The Health Action Group have now produced a short film using the day as a starting point and featuring interviews with residents and health professionals explaining how easy and enjoyable it can be to keep active and healthy. We hope eventually to distribute the Bakewell Health Experience film to doctor's surgeries and health centres.

The Bakewell Health Experience film is available on YouTube.
