Coventry Sports Trust

Coventry Older People's Forum

The Coventry Older People's Forum consists of a group of people over the age of 55. The Forum seeks to improve the quality of life for the older generation and aims to put their views and opinions as consumers, voters, and users of public services to good use. They provide free basic computer classes and talks on a wide range of subjects. There is no membership subscription and they meet at 10.30am every second Monday of each month (except Bank Holidays) at the Council House (usually in the Council Chamber, please phone or check at reception for confirmation).

University of the Third Age in Coventry (U3A)

The University of the Third Age provides opportunities for all kinds of constructive and leisure activities and involves older people in the creation and organisation of their own study programmes. The local branches are run by and for people of 50 onwards who are no longer in full time employment. In Coventry the study and leisure groups look at local history; philosophy; creative writing; current affairs; rambling; art and crafts; bridge; gardening; music; keep fit; green bowls in summer and ten pin bowling in winter; art appreciation group; and floral art group.

Meetings are held at St. Barbara's Church Hall, Earlsdon every other Wednesday at 2.00 pm. Any enthusiastic older person interested in U3A can contact the Membership Secretary for details (there is a membership fee of £10.00 - can vary).

Old Time and Modern Sequence Dancing

Brin and Irene Harris teach old time and modern sequence dancing to couples (who already have some knowledge) of any age and background and in particular retired people, thus providing safe exercise.

Lessons take place in various venues and are reasonably priced. They are: Monday 2.00pm - 4.00pm, Tea dance at Holy Family Hall, Penny Park Lane, Keresley and one Saturday evening each month, from 7.30pm - 10.00pm, please ring for details. Social dances are also arranged. They are members of the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA), 76 Bennett Road, Coventry. Tea dances & classes are held in Keresley

City of Coventry Over 60s Leisure Club

The aim of the club is encourage people to use their leisure in healthy and congenial activities and to make new friends after retiring. Their motto is 'friendship, fitness and fun'. Sessions are held every Monday and Friday 10.20am - 12.20pm at the Coventry Baths and Sports Centre, Fairfax St, Coventry. Activities include indoor bowls, badminton, table tennis, swimming, and modern sequence dancing. There is free tuition in all these. The venue also has a buffet for hot snacks, drinks etc and a licensed bar.

The club also organises social events, day trips and theatre trips etc. Anyone over 60 or who has retired can join - there is a nominal membership fee. Information of interest to older people is available and the club is affiliated to Age Concern, Coventry.

Healthy Walks

Healthy Walks encourages people to enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle through starting walking. A weekly programme of organised walks operates, mostly in the Foleshill area. The walks are free and are designed for anyone who wants to start exercising again, whether you are concerned about health problems or just enjoy walking.
