Coventry's sports teams

Coventry Blaze

Coventry's famous ice-hockey team playing out of the fantastic SkyDome Arena are one of the sport's leading sides and have top players from Britain, Scandinavia and North America on its roster. The team plays at home on most Sunday nights during the September to March season.

Coventry City Football Club

Coventry has fortunately had an Academy system in place for some time, and is beginning to reap the rewards. The Sky Blues already have a number of young players that have progressed through the ranks into the first team, meaning the future looks bright for the city’s biggest sports club. The Ricoh Arena in the north of the city provides over 30,000 football fans with a first rate view of the Club's home games.

Coventry Crusaders

Coventry Crusaders formed in 1992, is one of the forefront teams in British basketball today and in 2002 were playing in the National Basketball Conference League. While performing in the nations top league they have seen their support grow from a few hundred in the early days to a regular attendance of a few thousand.

Coventry Rugby Club

Coventry Rugby Club is striving hard to return to its former glory days and achieve promotion to the Premiership to coincide with the long planned move to the new stadium at the Butts. Currently playing in National Division One, the club are confident the new facility and the move away from Coundon Road after over 75 years will also attract other sports and activities.

Coventry Bears

Coventry Bears were formed in 1998 by a group of University students led by Alan Robinson, then Great Britain Student Rugby League captain and full Irish International. He approached Keith Fairbrother, the Coventry Rugby Union club's Chairman and one time League player, and following a meeting in early 1999 the club was founded.

The 2005 season saw a new addition to the club, with the formation of the Coventry Bears Women's rugby league team.

Coventry Speedway

Based at Brandon Speedway Track, Coventry Speedway is one of the elite teams in British Speedway today. Their sport involves motorbikes hurtling around an oval shale track at stomach churning speed. Formed in 1948, Coventry Speedway team have progressed into a major force in Speedway today, despite it being regarded as the toughest league in the world.

Coventry Cassidy Jets

Coventry's very own American Football Team were formed as the Warwickshire Bears in February 1984 by two local men with a lot of assistance from the head coach of the united states air base team at Chicksands.
