Improving the Physical and Sensory Impairment Service
The Physical and Sensory Impairment Service is committed to the following four principles:
- Supporting People to live in their own homes
- Promoting Independence
- Choice
- Reducing Dependency
The Physical and Sensory Impairment Service is committed to the overall philosophy of supporting people with additional needs to live independently. We understand this to have four key elements:
1. To live in your own home. We are committed to creating and delivering services that enable people to live in their own home.
2. Promoting Independence. We are committed to providing re-enablement and rehabilitation services
3. Choice. We are committed to delivering services in a way that allows a disabled person to exercise real choices.
4. Reducing Dependency. By focusing services on rehabilitation and enablement, we support people to gain confidence and make positive choices about their lives.
Residential services are also available but we are continuing to make significant changes as we move from a traditional residential care approach towards supporting people to live in homes that are much more their own.
Joint working with the Health Authority is crucial in meeting people’s need appropriately and effectively. It plays an important part in developing and maintaining adult services.
