Health and medical care

This area provides help and guidance on many health related matters. The council is not directly involved in delivering all of these services, but works with our partners to help improve the health of people in Coventry. In addition to information on the services that we provide, you will find extensive links to organisations that provide advice on a wide variety of health-related matters.

Local

  • NHS Coventry - NHS Coventry is responsible for both community and mental health services in Coventry.
  • University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire - University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust is responsible for managing three major hospitals in Coventry and Warwickshire, which between them serve a population of over a million. These are:
    • University Hospital, north-east Coventry (Walsgrave site)
    • Hospital of St.Cross, Rugby
  • www.coventryhealthhub.nhs.uk - The Public Health Information and Resources website of NHS Coventry.
  • Directory of Health and Social Care Services for Adults and Older People in Coventry - The Voluntary Action Coventry’s Directory contains details of 130 local voluntary and community organisations in Coventry and is a very useful source of information for such organisations’ services, and contact details etc.

  • Alzheimers Society - The Alzheimer's Society is the UK's leading care and research charity for people with any form of dementia and their carers.

  • Health Advice for Travellers - Whether you are going off in search of sea and sun, travelling on business, or trekking through the wilds, this site is designed to help you enjoy a healthy journey - and to deal successfully with any medical emergencies which might arise.
  • MedicDirect - The only interactive website hosted by leading UK medical consultants providing comprehensive consumer health information online.
  • Mental Health - Supporting and Caring - BBC site looks at the issues surrounding support, including how to build better relationships, how to deal with difficult situations, how to care for young people - and the importance of caring for carers.
  • National Chinese Healthy Living Centre - The Chinese National Healthy Living Centre aims to promote healthy living, and to provide access to health services, for the Chinese community in the UK. The Centre takes an holistic approach, tackling both the physical and psychological aspects of health.
  • PALS - Patients Advice and Liaison Service - A service that puts the patient at the very heart of the NHS and aims to make the journey through the NHS as smooth as possible, making sure that the patient and their carers have access to 'on the spot' information and a way of resolving problems quickly.
  • The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman - The Parliamentary Ombudsman and the Health Service Ombudsman undertake independent investigations into complaints about government departments, a range of other public bodies, and the National Health Service.
