Public Health Nutrition Service

Nutritionist talking to group

The Public Health Nutrition team work closely and in partnership with other agencies (e.g. Community Dietetics, Health Visiting, Children's Centres, Family Support Workers, Mental Health Services) to address food and nutrition issues within the diverse communities of Coventry.

There are four Public Health Nutritionists and one Senior Health Development Officer (Nutrition) who work throughout Coventry. Our work focuses on reducing levels of obesity and infant mortality in the city and encouraging people to adopt healthier lifestyles.

What does the team do?

As a team, we contribute to wide range of food and health activity throughout the city including:

  • Promoting healthy lifestyles via health events, supporting local groups, talks on healthy diets etc.
  • Working with children around nutrition issues linking with staff, parents and youth services.
  • Work supporting expectant mothers gain optimal nutrition before, during and after pregnancy.
  • Advising new parents on the introduction of solid foods and supporting them in feeding children under 5 years old.
  • Weight management groups focusing on identifying and overcoming habits and emotions related to food.
  • Working to introduce standards for Nursery food in Coventry in line with the Caroline Walker Trust guidelines
