Adoption and fostering
Welcome to Coventry Fostering and Adoption Service's web pages. We recruit, train and support foster carers and adopters and find families for Coventry children and young people who need a foster home or adoptive family.
You can find out more about fostering or adoption by selecting from the menu on the left or by clicking on the links below. Within the adoption section we also provide information for adopted adults and birth families.
Adoption - could you turn a child's life around?
Adoption is a permanent way of providing a new family for a child or children who cannot be brought up by their own parents. It's a legal procedure in which all the parental responsibility is transferred to the adopters.
In Coventry there are around 30 children currently waiting to be adopted. They include groups of brothers and sisters who want to stay together, children with learning difficulties or health problems and older children.
At the moment all the children waiting need new families who live outside Coventry, so we welcome enquiries from people living outside the city but within an hour's drive. Unfortunately, because of the children's needs, we are unable to take enquiries from people living in Coventry. But we can provide you with the contact details of other local adoption organisations.
Fostering - could you make a positive change in a child's life?
Unlike adoption, fostering means looking after someone else's child when they need a planned (temporary) period away from home. Foster carers share responsibility for the child they look after with Coventry City Council and the child's birth parents.
In Coventry, foster carers are needed to look after children for both short and longer periods of time. We also need foster carers who have the skills to look after older children with emotional and behavioural problems as a result of their early life experiences.
For an informal discussion about adoption or fostering, please contact the Recruitment Team's duty worker at the number below.
