Youth Offending Service
The Youth Offending Service is a multi-disciplinary team working in partnership with other teams and agencies to reduce offending by young people.
The service works to support the six key objectives of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 by making sure that:
- The time from arrest to sentence is short;
- Young people understand the consequences of their behaviour;
- Work is provided which looks at the causes of young people's misbehaviour and offending;
- Any punishment relates to the seriousness and persistence of offending;
- Young offenders work with their victims or the community;
- Parents are aware of their responsibility.
In this section of the website you can find information about the ways that the Youth Offending Service works to prevent offending and how young offenders are dealt with. There are a number of different orders that can be made, either by a court or outside the court system, follow the links on the right to find more information about these orders.
