PrimeLines works along Stoney Stanton Road

Stoney Stanton Road Improvements

The Stoney Stanton Road is a major corridor linking the City Centre with various areas of Coventry such as Hillfields, Foleshill, Stoke Heath, Courthouse Green and Bell Green. It also connects the City Centre with the A444 and is the main route, along with Foleshill Road, to reach areas such as Alderman's Green and Hawkesbury.

The Stoney Stanton Road Corridor is a Bus Showcase scheme under the PrimeLines Brand but not the PrimeLines Project and therefore, the PrimeLines Project deadline of March 2008 does not apply to this corridor. The 4 PrimeLines corridors which have this deadline for completion are Corridor 1 - Foleshill Road, Corridor 3 - Ansty Road, Corridor 5 - Willenhall and Corridor 7 - University.

The main services that run along the corridor are the 21, run by Travel Coventry, and the 22, run by Travel DeCourcey. The 21 is a bendi-bus route. The 4, 10, 30a, 30c, 32c, 33, 36 and 40 from Travel Coventry and the 703, 704 and 778 from Travel DeCourcey also have elements of their journey along this corridor.

PrimeLines works on Stoney Stanton Road, Swanswell Street, Bell Green Road, Henley Road, Riley Square and within Wood End.

Works are at various stages along the Stoney Stanton Corridor. Most of the bus stops have been upgraded to PrimeLines standard along this route which will enable them to have Real Time Passenger Information installed. In addition, where possible, we have installed bus priority such as bus lanes and bus gates. PrimeLines are also responsible for the signalisation of the junction with the A444 (Phoenix Way). Where possible, we have constructed other measures such as parking bays and loading bays to assist local traders and residents. We have assisted in some landscaping schemes to improve the image of the area.

Here you can find out more about what has happened along specific areas of the Stoney Stanton Road corridor and find out whom to contact if you have any queries.

Stoney Stanton Road's PrimeLines works have been split into 6 sections. To find out more, click on their related links.

Section 2.1 - Lower Stoney Stanton Road - Ring Road to Red Lane

PrimeLines are currently developing plans to improve this section of road and plan to consult with residents in January 2008. We plan to improve the bus stops, install bus lanes, install parking bays and amend the waiting restrictions. We will also look at landscaping and improving the pedestrian facilities in the area.

Keep checking this website for more information about consultation and what we propose.

Section 2.2 - Upper Stoney Stanton Road - Red Lane to A444 (Phoenix Way)

Work on this section has been completed except for a few minor issues. We have made alterations to the junctions with Cross Road, Broad Street and Gallagher Retail park - this including an inbound bus by-pass to avoid conflict with the roundabout. We have also installed parking bays along this section and an inbound bus lane leading to a bus gate near Bright Street.

The bus stops have also been upgraded to PrimeLines standard.

Section 2.3 - Bell Green Road - A444 (Phoenix Way) to Henley Road

PrimeLines has completed its works along this stretch. The junction of Bell Green Road and the A444 (Phoenix Way) has been signalised to improve safety. All the bus stops have been upgraded and pedestrian facilities at junctions improved.

The bus stop recently involved in a Road Traffic Accident on Bell Green Road has had a new shelter ordered and it will be replaced when it arrives.

Section 2.4 - Riley Square - Henley Road & Roseberry Avenue

Along with Neighbourhood Management and New Deals for Communities, PrimeLines has completed improvements to the front of Riley Square including new paving, entrance features and landscaping.

PrimeLines are now looking at similar scheme at the back of Riley Square on Roseberry Avenue, however, to also include a bus interchange in the area, improve the car park, landscaping and paving. We're looking at consulting in January or February 2008.

Keep checking this website for more information on consultation and what we propose.

Section 2.5 - Wood End - Deedmore Road to Almond Tree Avenue

Once PrimeLines have completed the works on Corridor 2 and 5, the only 21 stops left to upgrade are the ones in Riley Square and the New Deals for Communities loop in Wood End. PrimeLines plan to upgrade the stops in the loop. It covers both the service 21 and service 10 bus stops on Deedmore Road, Hillmorton Road and Almond Tree Avenue. The two other stops on Almond Tree Avenue (near Hall Green Road) will also be considered for upgrade. We will also carry out some pedestrian and landscaping improvements.

As the bus stops along Broad Park Road and Winston Avenue have been completed, this will complete all the bus stops in the Wood End area.

Other PrimeLines work on the Stoney Stanton Road corridor:

The Stoney Stanton Road corridor has 1 "Spur" corridor which is a bus route that is split off from the main corridor. PrimeLines will enhance the facilities along these routes similarly to the main corridors:

Corridor 2a - Henley Road - Bell Green Road to Woodway Lane

This is a separate scheme from the Stoney Stanton corridor that was funded by the New Deals for Communities group in Wood End. It upgraded all the bus stops on Henley Road and the first two on Wyken Croft. Work has been completed on this corridor.
