PrimeLines works along Ansty Road (and Ball Hill)

Ansty Road

The Ansty Road corridor, otherwise known as the Walsgrave Road corridor, runs along the A4600 from the City Centre to the M6 covering areas such as Gosford Green, Stoke, Wyken, Walsgrave and Potters Green. Other than the relatively recently constructed A444, this is the only corridor directly linking the City Centre with the M6.

This scheme is part of the PrimeLines Project which is due to be completed in April 2008.

This corridor is Coventry's first Red Route. Details on what this means can be found on the Red Route page.

The main services that run along the corridor are the 31, 32 and 33, run by Travel Coventry. The 10, 27, 30a and 30c from Travel Coventry, the 37, 47, 74, 75, 585, 703, 704, 767 and 777 from Travel DeCourcey, the X6 from Stagecoach and the 100, 101 and 102 from A-Line also have elements of their journey along this corridor.

For more information on specific terms that may be included in these pages, consult the PrimeLines Glossary.

PrimeLines work along Sky Blue Way, Walsgrave Road, Ansty Road & Hinckley Road

Works along the Ansty Road corridor are almost complete and the Red Route became operational on Thursday 18th October 2007. All of the bus stops, apart from the Forum, have been upgraded to PrimeLines standard. The Forum is the only section of work that remains and it will be completed by April 2008.

3.1 Sky Blue Way - Ring Road Junction 3 to Walsgrave Road

PrimeLines have completed works on Sky Blue Way. As part of the scheme, an inbound bus lane was built from Walsgrave Road to the Ring Road roundabout. This allowed Regeneration to obtain funding for the Far Gosford Street regeneration scheme which saw Far Gosford Street turned into an outbound one way street. To accomodate the bus lane, PrimeLines have realigned the road, altered the central reservation, and improved the junction with Oxford Street. It was also necessary to create two additional PrimeLines standard inbound bus stops to replace the ones which were consequently removed on Far Gosford Street. The outbound bus stop has been upgraded to PrimeLines standard. PrimeLines funded the upgrade of the bus stops on Far Gosford Street.

If you have any queries regarding the Far Gosford Street scheme, please contact Regeneration.

3.2 Walsgrave Road - Sky Blue Way to Brighton Street / Kingsway (B4110)

PrimeLines have completed works along this section. Working with the Regeneration Team, PrimeLines have improved the junction of Sky Blue Way / Walsgrave Road / Binley Road / Far Gosford Street and upgraded the bus stops to PrimeLines standard.

3.3 Ball Hill - Brighton Street / Kingsway (B4110) to Shakespear Street

PrimeLines have recently completed works along this section. We have upgraded all of the bus stops to PrimeLines standard, and made several improvements to Ball Hill and the junction with Clay Lane. PrimeLines have also created extra parking facilities to work alongside the Red Route. We have undertaken work to improve the Clay Lane car park and upgraded and relocated the first two bus stops on Clay Lane. PrimeLines have also improved the pedestrian crossing facilities at Ball Hill and near Harefield Road.

3.4 The Forum - Shakespeare Street to Longfellow Road

PrimeLines consulted on this scheme in May and have been developing it in light of the suggestions received at the consultation. We will bring you more news on this scheme shortly.

3.5 Walsgrave Road - Longfellow Road to Dane Road

PrimeLines have realigned the road and created an inbound bus lane from outside the Walsgrave Pub to the junction with Longfellow Road, improved the pedestrian crossing next to the junction with Longfellow Road and the traffic signal controlled junction with Dane Road. We have also created extra parking layby facilities to work alongside the Red Route.

3.6 Ansty Road - Dane Road to Wyken Croft

Along with the Highway Maintenance Team, PrimeLines have vastly improved the Ansty Road. Whilst Highway Maintenance have resurfaced the road, we have created parking bays and upgraded the bus stops to PrimeLines standard. The main aim for the parking bays is to remove parked vehicles from obstructing the progress of buses along the route and also to provide parking facilities for residents' visitors as part of the Red Route scheme.

3.7 Ansty Road - Wyken Croft to Clifford Bridge Road

PrimeLines have recently completed work along this section. We have constructed a short outbound bus lane leading up to the junction with Clifford Bridge Road and made improvements to the junction by signalising the Clifford Bridge Road arm and providing controlled pedestrian crossing facilities. The junction with Norton Hill Drive has also benefitted from signalisation. PrimeLines have also created new parking bays and upgraded the bus stops to PrimeLines standard.

Highway Maintenance continued their resurfacing programme through this section.

3.8 Hinckley Road - Clifford Bridge Road to Wigston Road

PrimeLines completed works along this section in 2006. We have upgraded the bus stops to PrimeLines standard.

3.9 Ansty / Hinckley Road - Wigston Road to M6 Junction 2

PrimeLines have completed the Red Route by linking it into the M6 at Junction 2.

Other PrimeLines work on the Ansty Road corridor:

The Ansty Road corridor has 2 "Spur" corridors which are bus routes that split off from the main corridor. PrimeLines are to improve bus facilities and priorities on these routes too:

Corridor 3a: The Forum to the University Hospital via Wyken:

This spur follows the service 27 route through Longfellow Road, Hipswell Highway, Mayflower Drive, Harry Rose Road, Attoxhall Road, Belgrave Road and Clifford Bridge Road. Work has been completed on upgrading all the bus stops along this spur.

Corridor 3b: Woodway Lane to Wigston Road via Potters Green:

This spur follows the service 32 route through Woodway Lane, Narberth Way, Wigston Road and Ringwood Highway. PrimeLines are currently consulting residents regarding this scheme and we are proposing to upgrade all the bus stops and the terminus at Ringwood Highway to PrimeLines standard.
