PrimeLines works through to Willenhall

The Willenhall Corridor is a major corridor linking the City Centre with the Southern areas of Coventry such as Cheylesmore, Whitley and Willenhall. The corridor goes through Mile Lane, Queen Isabel's Avenue, Daventry Road, London Road and St. James' Lane to the Willenhall Terminus. The London Road is the main route to the City Centre from the A45 (Rugby) and Coventry Airport.

This scheme is part of the PrimeLines Project which has a deadline for completion in March 2008.

The main services that run along the corridor are the service 21, run by Travel Coventry, and the service 22 and 737, run by Travel DeCourcey. The service 21 is a bendi-bus route. The 1, 2, 11, 13, 13a and 801, run by Travel Coventry and the 570 and 580 run by Travel DeCourcey also have elements of their journey along this corridor.

PrimeLines works through to Willenhall

5.1 Mile Lane - Ring Road Junction 5 to The Mount:

PrimeLines have upgraded all the bus stops along this section of Mile Lane and improved the traffic signals controlling the traffic over the railway and the junction with Puma Way. PrimeLines have also added a pedestrian crossing to Mile Lane near to the Ring Road junction.

5.2 The Mount Junction - Mile Lane / John Grace Street / The Mount / Queen Isabel's Avenue / Cornelius Street:

PrimeLines have made alterations to the layout and landscaping of this junction.

5.3 Queen Isabels Avenue - Mile Lane to Daventry Road

Most of the work has been completed on Queen Isabel's Avenue. The road has been resurfaced, parking bays created, the lighting columns upgraded and the tree planting is underway. The bus stops are also due to be upgraded to PrimeLines standard shortly.

5.4 Daventry Road - Queen Isabels Avenue to London Road

PrimeLines has been working on designs for this scheme for several months and undertaken a number of consultations with residents through the delivery of newsletters. We are trying to achieve a scheme that suits the most parties possible. Before work can commence, the work on section 5.3 needs to be complete as well as continued service upgrades by external companies in the area such as gas. PrimeLines proposed to create new parking bays, upgrade the bus stops, provide new pedestrian refuges to provide safer crossing points and carry out minor junction improvements to ease the buses' journey.

5.5 London Road - Whitley Island

PrimeLines have recently completed works on the Whitley Island. We have installed an outbound bus lane equipped with a bus gate. PrimeLines have also constructed an extra general traffic slip road to ease traffic from the London Road to the A46. To increase capacity and improve safety, PrimeLines have also reduced the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph.

5.6 London Road - Whitley Island to Abbey Road

PrimeLines are currently investigating options on how to improve general traffic and bus flow along this congested section of road. The bus stops will be upgraded to PrimeLines standard and junction improvements will be considered. We will also look at landscaping schemes and consider improving pedestrian and cycle facilities.

5.7 London Road - Abbey Road to St. James' Lane

PrimeLines have completed works along this section. We have extended the existing bus lane and upgraded the bus stops to PrimeLines stardard.

5.8 St. James' Lane - London Road to Willenhall Terminus

PrimeLines have completed works along this section. We have made significant investment in the re-organisation and upgrade of the bus stops and made considerable improvements to the facilities at the terminus.
