Potholes
A pothole is where the surface of the road has been eroded and a hollow has formed. The council, as Highway Authority, has responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the highway.
Reporting a pothole:
When you areĀ telling us about a pothole, you needĀ to tell us the exact location of the pothole - name of street and outside which house number.
| Use our online pothole reporting form. |
The severity of the pothole and, therefore, the criteria for attention is determined by the risk it poses to road users. This is difficult to judge since all potholes present some risk. The factors to be taken into account include size and depth of pothole; traffic type, speed and volume; road alignment and visibility and also the position in relation to road width. Potholes can also appear on pavements/footways.
Inspectors carry out inspections every six months on all roads and footways in Coventry and works orders are placed for any necessary repairs.
When the team carry out the repair to the pothole they will also repair any other potholes within 25 metres of the works order.
