Lighting - street lights

The Council is responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of streetlights. We maintain 30,000 street lights in Coventry and reports of faults are dealt with by Street Services.

Reporting a faulty street light

When reporting a fault on a street light please give the following information:

• The exact location of the streetlight.
• The column number of the light (stencilled on the column about two metres up).
• The nature of the fault, e.g not lighting up, day burning, going on/off, intermittent, burning 24 hours or exposed wires etc.

If the fault is dangerous and you are reporting it out of office hours please call our Emergency Communications Centre.

We aim to:

• Ensure dangerous faults e.g exposed wires or unstable columns are responded to within two hours (if reported during office hours).
• We will repair a lamp column within five working day when the column number is provided or 10 working days when the column number is not given.

Can the lighting in my street be improved?

All requests will be considered and prioritised accordingly. We take into account age and condition of the existing installation along with the light output. However, all considerations are budget led. Please contact us for more information using the details below.
