Travelling to Work - Travelling from Home
This section provides information on business and residential travel plans.
Workplace travel plans and Company TravelWise
Many companies are now developing Travel Plans, either as part of a planning condition or as part of the
company's commitment to social or environmental responsibility. The Workplace Travel Plan Co-ordinator can support companies
going through this process. The advice and support is available free of charge to companies in the Coventry area. By joining
the Council's TravelWise scheme, companies can also access services and discounts. These include postcode mapping, analysis
of survey data, discounts on annual public transport passes and access to a small grant scheme for capital projects such as
on site cycle storage.
For further advice and support on travel plans and Company TravelWise please contact Jas Jawanda.
You can also look at the Travel
Plans, Cycle Parking and Accessibility Supporting Technical Guidance for further advice.
Residential travel plans - travel plans for homes
Residential Travel Plans are becoming a requirement for many residential developments. The
Workplace Travel Plan Co-ordinator can support developers in developing their travel plan. Measures to include in a residential
travel plan can include a welcome pack for all new residents which can include bus and train timetable information, cycling
and walking maps of the immediate area, directions via public transport and walking and cycling routes to key destinations
such as schools, health centres and leisure facilities. Other measures can include providing public transport passes for
the first month or year of occupation, ensuring that all homes are connected to broadband and that cycle storage is in a well
lit accessible location.
For further advice and support on travel plans and please contact Jas Jawanda. The Travel
Plans, Cycle Parking and Accessibility Supporting Technical Guidance gives more information of what can be included.
Coventry City Council's Travel Plan
As the largest employer in the city, the Council can have a great impact on the amount of
congestion at peak times. By having a Council Travel Plan we encourage our employees to think about how they travel to work,
and provide incentives to make the alternatives more attractive. Examples of this include providing an annual travel pass
scheme for bus, rail and 'Park & Ride'.
We provide secure cycle parking at major Council sites and provide cyclists
with high visibility clothing and public liability insurance. We also pay 20p per mile for business journeys by bike.
We hold events to encourage employees to consider how the travel in line with national campaigns such as Walk to Work Week,
Bike Week and hold Bike & Hike 2 Work Days where walkers, cyclists and public transport users get rewarded with a free
breakfast.
For those who need to use a car for business journeys we have pool cars available. These cars use either
Hybrid technology or are fully powered by electricity to ensure that when we do use vehicles, we are creating the minimum
emissions possible.

Plan is current under revision, however the October 2007 version is available to download in a text only version at the bottom
of the page..
