Travel options for disabled people
We are responsible for providing disabled parking bays, access protection markings and pedestrian dropped kerbs. We also have a Blue Badge scheme, shopmobility and the Routeforward programme.
Disabled parking bays
Disabled parking bays are advisory markings put on the road outside a person's home to provide an area where a blue badge holder can park their vehicle displaying a blue badge. There are certain criteria that are required to be met before a bay can be provided.
Access protection marking
An access protection marking is an advisory marking that can be used to highlight a dropped kerb (vehicle access). The marking is often referred to as a 'H' marking. It assists to highlight to drivers that it is an area where they should not be parking.
Pedestrian dropped kerbs
Pedestrian dropped kerbs are areas of lowered kerb which makes it easier for pedestrians and wheelchair users to cross the road.
Disabled parking permit (Blue Badge)
Blue parking badges allow cars carrying people who are registered blind or people who have severe walking difficulties to be parked near shops, stations and other facilities.
Routeforward
Routeforward is designed to improve people's accessibility to walking, cycling and public transport.
Bus passes for disabled people
Centro gives a Free Travel Pass to entitled disabled people who live within Coventry, Birmingham, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton.
