09 September 2018
  • Location: Albany Theatre, 53 The Butts, Butts Rd, Coventry CV1 3BH
  • Time: 11:00 - 15:00

The Albany Theatre is a 1930s art-deco style theatre formally the home of the old Coventry Technical College.

The building was designed in 1919 and the theatre opened in 1935. The building boasts stunning stained glass windows, marble foyer and old fashioned charm. The Albany Theatre with its brand new studio space provides a home to many local school events, musical theatre societies and community groups as well as a complementary range of professional productions.
Saved from demolition just a few years ago the theatre is now a thriving arts venue. It is run as a charity by a professional core staff with assistance from a team of volunteers. Their Arts for Life Initiative has a burgeoning reputation for providing visitors and local communities alike with a flourishing theatre and music scene that promised to make a valued contribution to the Coventry's UK City of Culture status.

An opportunity to see up close, not just the stunning Art Deco features front of house but also a glimpse into the backstage world of a busy theatre. With a chance to dress up in costumes, visit dressing rooms and see the workings behind the scenes, there's something for all ages to enjoy.
