The Lanchester Interactive Archive space showcases highlights from the Lanchester collection; including Fred’s notebooks, sketchbooks, blueprints and more.


Coventry University holds the largest collection of Frederick Lanchester's work in his notebooks, sketchbooks, photographs, blueprints, patents and correspondence. It is the biggest source of Lanchester information in the world. This vast collection of over 21,000 images is also digitised and fully available to view online. 

Come and visit our space in the Lanchester Library where you can:

  • Take the wheel of our beautiful 1933 Lanchester car and find out how it works
  • See how Lanchester's ideas shaped modern planes and automobiles
  • Watch his ideas come to life through our augmented reality
  • Play digital games and challenge yourself against Frederick Lanchester's genius.
  • Delve deep into the online archive and see the unique blueprints of his inventions.
  • Children's activities using Lego to facilitate creative thinking around Fred's ideas.
