The national theme for Holocaust Memorial Day is "Torn From Home"

The event will take place in Broadgate, Coventry city centre.

Programme

  • Music performed by Coventry Music - Brass Quintet
  • Welcome by Martin Reeves, Chief Executive, Coventry City Council
  • The Lord Mayor of Coventry - Councillor John Blundell
  • Speaker - John Fieldsend - Holocaust survivor and Kinder transport child
  • Coventry City Council Choir singing "Never Forget"
  • Speaker - Sroosh Kouhyar - Afghan Refugee
  • Speaker - Medina Softic will be giving a talk on her families' plight on the conflict that affected Bosnia between 1992-1995
  • A Reading by the Coventry University Students Union
  • Final words from Martin Reeves
  • Music performed by Coventry Music - Brass Quintet

The guest speakers talk about their experiences of the Holocaust and genocides throughout the world and why we should never forget and all work towards peace and understanding.

The Broadgate event will be followed by a more personal talk from our speaker Mr John Fieldsend in the Lord Mayor's Hospitality Suite, The Council House. All welcome

  • 1pm to 1.45pm - Buffet lunch
  • 1.45pm to 2.30pm - Talk by Mr John Fieldsend followed by a question and answer session.
