Change of banks to NatWest - FAQs

Coventry City Council is changing its bank on 1 October 2016 from HSBC to NatWest. From this date the new details for all payments you make to us will be:

What does this mean for residents and businesses who transact with Coventry City Council?

Q: I currently pay for my Council Tax/Business Rates/Sundry Debt by direct debit to Coventry City Council 
A: You do not need to do anything. Your direct debit will be collected as usual and will be paid into the new Coventry City Council bank account.

Q: I currently pay Coventry City Council for services by standing order
A: You will need to contact your bank to arrange for the banking details to be amended (as detailed above). Alternatively, if you use internet banking you may be able to change the details yourself. Please remember to quote your reference/invoice number with all payments.

Q: I currently pay Coventry City Council for services by BACS/FasterPay/CHAPS.
A: You will need to amend our banking details on your systems to those above.

Q: I currently pay Coventry City Council for services through my personal online banking service, using payment details I have set up.
A: You will need to revise the payment details on your internet banking for Coventry City Council’s new bank account (details above).

Q: I currently pay Coventry City Council for services by internet banking using the predefined list from my own bank.
A: You do not need to do anything. Our details will be updated automatically in the background

Q: I have made a payment into Coventry City Council’s old HSBC account after the changeover date of 1st October 2016.
A: The HSBC bank account will not be closed immediately, there will be a period of dual running so the payment will be picked up as usual. However you will need to make the necessary changes to your payments going forward. Any payments made to HSBC after the end of November 2016 may not be received by the council and our usual recovery procedures will commence. Please make sure you make the necessary changes and pay into the correct Council bank account.

Q: I pay Coventry City Council for council tax/business rates/sundry debts/benefits overpayments using the Coventry City Council’s online payment system.
A: There is no change to this service so you can continue using it as normal.

Q: I pay Coventry City Council for council tax/business rates/sundry debts/benefits overpayments using the automated telephone payments service.
A: There is no change to this service so you can continue using it as normal.

Q: I pay Coventry City Council for council tax/business rates/sundry debts/benefits overpayments using payment slips sent out with my bill.
A: You can continue to use these payment slips until further notice.

Q: I have received a cheque from Coventry City Council which was issued on the old HSBC account, can I still pay this into my account?
A: Yes you can still pay this in to your account but please do so as soon as possible and certainly within 6 months of the date of the cheque.
