Lord Mayor of Coventry
On Thursday 16 May 2013, Councillor Gary Crookes was inaugurated as the Lord Mayor of Coventry for 2013 - 2014.
Cllr Crookes serves as a councillor for Wainbody ward and was first elected to the Council in 1975.
After serving as Deputy Lord Mayor in 2012 - 2013, he becomes Lord Mayor of Coventry in a year that will see the UK Corporate Games staged in the city. It is will also be the 60th Anniversary of the receipt of Letters Patent on the coronation of HM The Queen bestowing on our historic city the honour of the Office of Lord Mayor.
Cllr Crookes said: "It is such an honour to become the Lord Mayor of this great city which I have called my home for forty years.
"I am looking forward to welcoming visitors and telling them about our achievements and our aspirations for the future as well as representing the city at functions further afield."
Cllr Crookes came to Coventry in 1973 having met his Coventry born wife, Shirley, whilst they we were both studying at University College of North Wales, Bangor. After University he was offered a position as a field engineer for Plessey Telecommunications and made Coventry his home.
