Route 13
Improvements to Route 13
Centro, Coventry City Council and National Express Coventry have worked hard to improve the Route 13 from the City Centre to Holbrooks, via Jubilee Crescent.
Route 13 initially existed as a PrimeLines route. PrimeLines routes were characterised by buses with low floors for easy access and room for buggies and wheelchairs. Buses were also fitted with environmentally friendly low emission engines.
The Smart Route scheme is a natural progression of the Primelines scheme. The route 13 is the first Smart Route to be delivered in the West Midlands. In addition to bus improvements, the route 13 Smart Route includes improvements to junctions and parking, upgraded measures for cyclists, Personalised Travel Planning (PTP), and co-ordination with the City Council's programme of essential road repairs.
The route has the following:
- 41 bus stops and boarding points with raised kerbs which will make getting on and off the bus easier.
- Installation of Real Time Passenger Information, which will tell you exactly when your bus will arrive, at 10 of the busiest stops on the route.
- Traffic light priority at all traffic lights along the route and upgrade of five traffic signals at key junctions.
- 240 metres of bus lane on Radford Road and Upper Well Street.
- A new bus gate on Radford Road.
- A new pedestrian crossing on Radford Road.
- Parking bays on Sandy Lane outside of properties 15 to 35.
- New traffic lights at Sandy Lane Bridge with bus priority
- A wider road layout at two key traffic light junctions - Beake Avenue/Burnaby Road and Beake Avenue/Parkgate Road.
- An extended 20mph speed limit along Links Road from its junction with Jubilee Crescent to Telfer Road.
- Revised layout at the Wheelwright Lane bus terminus which will make it easier for buses to pull in to.
