Supplementary planning guidance
Extending your home
If the extension to your home requires planning permission you can check using our self assessment leaflets.
The following guidance notes will help ensure that your proposal will be acceptable to the planning team in most instances.
The guidance is split into 6 parts:
- Introduction - general principles of development
- Extensions to the side of your property
- Extension on corner plots
- Extensions to the rear of your property
- Extension to the front of your property
- Extension to the roof of your property
If your property is not a dwellinghouse (flat, maisonette, house in multiple occupation) then this guidance may not apply and you should contact the planning team for further advice.
From Monday 18 June 2012 we will charge for written informal enquiries seeking advice or asking "would I get planning permission for.......?"
This is because such enquiries require us to make a search of our records to provide an answer our normal charge of £40 will be made for this service.
Please email any enquires to firstname.lastname@example.org you can make payment by cash, cheque or by using the online payment system (use link at top of page). Responses will be provided within 10 working days of receipt of payment.
