The Data Protection Act 1998 sets out rules for processing personal information and applies to paper records as well as those held on computers.
The Act works in two ways - it gives the individual data subject certain rights, and requires that those who record and use personal information:
are open about how that information is used
follow the eight data protection principles
Our Data Protection Policy statement outlines our approach to compliance with the Act.
Individuals have the right to ask for personal data we hold about them by making a subject access request.
Coventry City Council's Fair processing notice explains how we use personal information we collect.
