Road resurfacing
Surface dressing
Surface dressing involves spreading stone chippings onto a road surface. This tried and trusted treatment which waterproofs the surface and helps prevents skids. It is used on road surfaces that are generally in good condition. The road is opened to traffic immediately as vehicles help to bed in the chippings. For this reason, it is important that traffic runs slowly over the surface for the first few days.
Retread
Retread involves the removal, recycling and replacement the top layer of the road surface. It gives excellent protection for the future and the new surface will have a good appearance and will reduce traffic noise.
Plane and overlay
This is a traditional treatment that involves applying a strong road surface to a depth of 30mm to 40mm. It is applied hot - but when cold it provides a good quality smooth surface and helps prevent skids.
Reconstruction and resurfacing
This is a tried and tested process developed by the road industry. It provides a smooth, quiet surface and is well suited to roads with high traffic flows and its high strength means it can be laid in thin layers.
