Midland Mencap is looking to recruit support workers to provide social and recreational activities across Coventry for children and young people with complex needs. 

  • To provide a person-centred approach when providing activities and support for children and young people with complex needs.
  • To take the lead for specific tasks as designated by the coordinator.
  • To mentor and support new staff during their probationary period.
  • To undertake training and take responsibility for children/young person who require tube feeding or emergency medication.
  • Ensure that all information for a designated group of children is kept up to date including “All About Me’s” protocols and risk assessments
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of children and young people by proactively managing safeguarding principles and practises.

Vacancy Details: 

  • As a Care Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing essential support and assistance to individuals who require help with daily activities, personal care, and overall well-being.
  • You will work in their private homes, ensuring that clients' physical and emotional needs are met with compassion and professionalism.
  • Essential: Driving Licence and Access to Own Car
  • Desired: Care certificate or NVQ Level 2 in Adult Social Care preferrable but not necessary as we provide the training.
  • Prior experience as a caregiver, nursing assistant, or related role preferred.
  • Empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with clients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to assist with lifting, transferring, and supporting clients with mobility challenges.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR procedures preferred but not necessary as we provide the training.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Valid background check and health clearance.

Vacancy Details: 

  • To provide care in in accordance with current best practice, according to policy and procedures, agreed standards, legislative requirements, relevant regulations under the direction of the Manager, and within the financial plans agreed from time-to-time.
  • To maintain care skills at a current level, and undertake such training and development as may from time-to-time be required to maintain that currency of practice.
  • To always put the best interest of the clients first; and act with empathy and comparison at all times.  
  • Assist the development of the philosophy, goals and objectives for the caring functions.
  • Attend to all care related functions of the clients in accordance with their Person Centred Care Plan.
  • To interact with the clients in an appropriate manner, whilst always maintaining their safety, privacy, and dignity.
  • Implement action to meet and maintain caring standards.
  • To support clients in all aspects of daily living, including personal care, hygiene, dressing feeding, etc whilst them to maintain their optimum level of independence.
  • Always follow appropriate regulations as stipulated by relevant organisations, such as the Care Quality Commission's Fundamental Standards, the Health & Safety Executive etc Participate in the development, evaluation and review of Person Centred Care Plans.
  • Participate in the development of relevant policies, particularly those pertaining to the caring function.
  • Ensure the clients rights are protected.
  • Develop effective working relationships with the other employees within Visiting Angels.

  • Minimise legal risks by adhering to all relevant legislations, regulations requirements and best practice guidance.
  • Assist in the Implementation of caring policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the standards as required by legislation related to the registration of Visiting Angels.
  • Work in a cost effective manner, with an awareness of budgetary constraints.
  • Assist in solving day-to-day problematic issues which arise.
  • Attend Staff meetings as scheduled and as and when required.
  • Assist with the orientation and induction of new employees.
