Welcome to the Coventry Safeguarding Children Board website. The Board is a statutory, multi-agency body responsible for making sure that all agencies work well together to safeguard children and young people from harm and improve their wellbeing. By law, it must have an independent chair and that is who I am.
Most professionals working in public services with children are very committed and diligent but we know that in spite of this, bad things still happen to some children and young people. To diminish the risk of these things happening and to make life safer and better for children, we really need services to work well together and talk to each other. We also need communities to be vigilant and take on board that safeguarding children and young people is a matter for everyone.
As a Board, our top priority is to listen to what children and young people have to say about their lives and help services respond to it and shape what they do accordingly.
We also need to communicate clear messages about safeguarding to all involved professionals as well as people in general. So we have done our best to make the Board’s website easier to read and navigate.
On this site you will find information about what you should do if you want to report concerns about a child. You will also find the Board’s policies and procedures for keeping children safe in Coventry as well as some stories about Coventry children whose lives have been made better by agencies working to help and support them. You will find detailed information about who we are, and how the Board works, as well as what we have done, are doing and plan to do in the future to make life better for children and young people in Coventry.
