Application process

Applicants wishing to apply for street trading consent must complete an application form via GOV.UK, along with the requisite fee not giving less than 14 days' notice of the application to The Licensing Team.

A map showing the exact trading location must be provided with all street trading applications. The map must show all public areas in a radius of 0.25 of a mile from the proposed trading activity.

The unit to be used for the street trading activity must comply with the legal requirements relating to the type of proposed activity. Street trading applications must be accompanied by a colour photograph of the trading unit. The trading unit must also comply with guidelines as detailed in the trading unit guidelines that accompany the application form. View a copy of the trading unit appearance guidelines.

Before a street trading consent is granted or renewed the Licensing team will consult with the following responsible authorities as considered appropriate: Police, Highways and Environmental Health.

It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that they have the correct permissions to trade in the desired location from the Planning department of the City Council.

Tacit consent applies once a full application has been submitted and you have received an acknowledgement. This means that you will be able to act as though your application is granted if you have not heard from the Council by the end of the 28 day target period.
