Standards Committee
About Standards Committee
The Standards Committee works to ensure that we maintain high standards of conduct for Coventry's councillors, co-opted members, church representatives and parent governor representatives. It meets and deals with reports around conduct issues and governance matters (i.e. how decisions are made and carried out.)
All councils are required to establish a Standards Committee as part of the ethical framework for public authorities following the Local Government Act 2000. The aim is to promote high standards of ethical conduct among elected councillors, independent and co-opted members. From 2008 the responsibility for considering any complaint that a member has breached the Members Code of Conduct became the responsibility of the Council's Standards Committee.
