What is Creative Futures?

Since April 2009, we have engaged in a number of high profile local and national events which have involved the use of creative provision such as dance, music production and art.

We have found that this type of provision has increased and broadened the reach of our team, attracting a whole new range of young people who we may not have catered for through our sports-based programmes.

Our projects have included the very high-profile 'Life not Knife' project, binge-drinking and substance misuse events, where targeted young people developed a project which enabled them to learn the skills and confidence to convey their messages through the use of media.

We have a regular timetable in place which includes Streetdance and music production. Through the establishment of Creative Futures, we will develop new programmes which will contribute to Coventry City Council's corporate responsibility of getting the voices of young people heard; particularly those that often go unheard as they do not have the confidence to articulate their thoughts in a mainstream environment.

Coventry Creative Futures have been working in partnership with Frontline AV to deliver a series of music and media workshops to a groups of young people in priority neighbourhoods that are constantly flagged though AIMS and at SNGs. We therefore decided to engage with targeted young people and get them involved in something positive that they enjoyed doing. It quickly became apparent that the young people had a passion for music and creativity.
