Stray dogs

A stray dog is a dog unsupervised in a public place - it doesn't matter whether it is wearing a collar, tag or has a microchip it is still classed as a stray when out roaming alone.

Reporting your lost dog

You can also report your missing dog to the following organisations:

  • If your dog is microchipped, contact the microchipping company (who's number will be on your dogs microchipping paperwork) and report it missing. This is also a good opportunity check the details on the microchip are up-to-date so that whoever scans your dog can easily get in touch with you.

Have you found a stray dog?

If you have found a dog during office hours

If you have found a dog outside office hours

Outside of office hours, after 5pm Monday to Thursday or 4.30pm on Friday, or on weekends/bank holidays, we supply a drop off point for stray dogs only. Members of the public who find a stray dog out of hours should call 024 7683 2208 first to arrange a time to drop off the stray dog.

We will not accept very sick or injured dogs into our kennels out of hours. If you believe the dog you have found is sick or injured and needs veterinary assistance, we recommend you take the dog to YourVets (Coventry Business Park, 1130-1140 Herald Avenue, Coventry CV5 6UB) where they can be treated and monitored overnight until the dog warden is back on duty the following day.

If you require assistance with transport out of hours and cannot keep the dog contained until the dog warden is on duty the following morning, you may be able to find a volunteer to help you with transport on the Lost and Found Pets Coventry Facebook group.
